Tim Nguyen has been a freelance photographer and independent artist since 2008, and is currently one of Calgary’s most prominent performing arts photographers. A passionate image maker, Tim's photos continue to evoke his passion for theatricality in every project - from the beautiful, to the mechanical and mundane.
A native Calgarian, Tim originally studied to be an actor at the University of Calgary, earning his BFA in 2006. During that time, his passion for photography escalated quickly, taking him off of the stage and landing squarely behind the lens. These experiences helped him to hone an innate ability to capture live productions with the same passion and intensity with which they are presented.
His primary fine art work, Lumination, has received multiple awards, gallery showings, and was produced as a coffee table book in 2015, selling out in days. His theatrical photography has been featured in newspapers and on television, both locally and nationwide.
Tim has worked with Downstage Theatre, Vertigo Theatre, Handsome Alice Theatre, Lunchbox Theatre, Dancer’s Studio West, Trip the Light Dance, The Calgary International Improv Festival, The Calgary International Children’s Festival, and many more. He has also returned to the University of Calgary for the past four years, creating thousands of images for the School of Creative and Performing Arts in Drama, Dance, and Music.

"Lumination is a needed project in the Cosplay community. Tim's ability to bring something new to the table of Cosplay photography should not go unnoticed. Working with Tim has brought a new light to every character."

"He's incredible to work with! He brings out a wonderfully comfortable side of me in modeling I don't often experience with others in the industry. "
